Making Same Day Edit Magic – A Workshop for Event Filmmakers

I am incredibly excited to announce a workshop that I will be co-hosting with EventDV top 25 honoree Konrad Czystowski of Fresh Sox! This will be an intense one day workshop on Same Day Edits held at The Holiday Inn in Dedham, Massachusetts from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Konrad will also offer an additional storytelling presentation to those attending the NPVA meeting (New England Professional Videographers Association) later that evening.

We will be sharing all of our ‘secrets’ on how to create amazing same day edit presentations that will wow your couples and their guests and increase your business. Both Konrad and myself book a lot of our weddings through the exposure that comes with the same day edit presentations. This workshop will appeal to anyone from seasoned wedding filmmakers to those who are brand new to the industry. You can create something truly special for your couples and their guests utilizing an efficient workflow combined with great teamwork and your individual artistic creativity. We will show you how to do this in a way that will ensure the cinema coverage is consistent throughout the whole day and nothing of importance is missed. Even if you aren’t interested in producing same day edits for weddings right now, you will learn new skills that will help you become a more creative filmmaker, a better storyteller and a more efficient editor.

We will break down the entire process and take you through our workflow starting with the early planning stages before the wedding to the premiere of the film on the big screen. We will cover advanced shooting and storytelling techniques to really make your same day edits have that “wow” effect. We will cover some of the differences in how we approach our films and how to get your feet wet without taking on too much at once. Nothing will be held back and all questions are welcome throughout the day.

DISCLAIMER: Same day edits may lead to an increase in the number of weddings you book, excessive praise for your work, and overwhelming joy and happiness from your couples. You may also experience excessive hugging from your couples after you premiere your same day edits. Neither Fresh Sox or Jeff Brouillet Films will be held responsible for this or any of the other awesomeness that may result.  :)

Event Filmmaker Education

This past Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of giving a presentation on DSLR filmmaking to the Connecticut Professional Videographers Association. This coming Monday I’ll be doing the same at the New England Videographers Association (NPVA) meeting in Dedham, MA. I’ll be talking about many ways to make the most out of your camera equipment as well as some of the things we do to enhance the experience our couples have when they select us to film their wedding.

There are groups like this in most major markets throughout the country, and as a current member of the NPVA I have found it incredibly helpful to share experiences and learn from other great event filmmakers in the area. If you are trying to get your feet wet in the industry or even if you are a seasoned pro, the resources these organizations offer are incredibly value, and the meetings are a lot of fun too!
If you’re interested in attending our meeting this Monday, or any other month, check out the NPVA.org website for more details!

in pursuit of my passion | from Long Island to Ontario to Austin, Texas

I have been blessed to be a part of some incredible experiences lately in an effort to better my skills and quench my thirst for knowledge in the world of wedding and event filmmaking. Last October I made a four hour drive each way to attend a workshop in Long Island, followed a couple weeks later by the three-day evolution experience with the StillMotion family in Ontario and most recently a three day “gathering” last week at IN[FOCUS] 2010 in Austin. Along the way I’ve met many new friends and gotten to know several of the world’s most talented wedding cinematographers. I sought out these opportunities with a goal to simply become better at what I do and came home with so much more then that. The knowledge I’ve gained and the friendships I’ve made are absolutely priceless and I’m looking forward to many more opportunities like this in the future.

Here are a couple of videos others have made to give a behind the scenes look at what these events are all about. If you look closely you will actually see me in front of the camera a couple of times, very unusual (although I’m not afraid of the lens!). First is StillMotion’s behind the scenes film from their third evolution experience which I was so lucky to be a part of. These guys have done stuff that has literally changed the way wedding films are made, and they have been a huge inspiration for me for quite some time…
I met Kaipo from NYC’s 15 Minutes of Frame in Long Island, was pleasantly surprised to see him in Ontario as a last minute addition to the evo experience, and he was also one of the 130 or so video geeks at IN[FOCUS] in Austin. Here’s his take on the IN[FOCUS] 2010 experience…
While I am already looking forward to IN[FOCUS] 2011 I’m sure there will be other opportunities in the meantime. One of my greatest fears is to become stagnant in my work. I can honestly look back at everything I’ve done and see a steady progression in the quality of work we produce. With all the ideas crammed into my head for this year I couldn’t be more excited for 2010 and I am more confident then ever that we are going to produce some kick-ass, personal, emotional and beautiful wedding films for our couples and their families. Every day I think about how lucky I am to get to do what I do, but I believe the greatest reward has been in getting to know so many incredible people, the relationships I’ve built, and all the little experiences and great moments that have come along with it. It truly is an incredible blessing and I absolutely love my life!
